Youth training
Our youth training program gives those ages 9-19 the opportunity to:
Red Group
Focus: Recreation
Age: 9-11 years old
Training times: 5:30-6:30 pm, Tues and Thurs, Parkland Secondary Track
Black Group
Focus: Technique and training
Age: 12-18 years old (younger athletes wanting to focus on technique and run harder may join)
Training times: 6:00-7:30 pm, Tues and Thurs, Parkland Secondary Track, optional Sunday practice at 1:00 pm at PISE track.
There is also pre-season training from Jan-March for serious athletes who want to focus on running (Tues and Thurs 4:30-5:30 pm and Sundays at 1 pm); included when you register for the full year.
The fees are the same regardless of the group.
About the program
BC has a highly developed program for athletes of these ages designed to train and develop young athletes in the sport of athletics. The distances run on the track, the heights and placement of hurdles and the weight of the throwing implements are appropriate for each age group. There are many track meets and cross country runs held around the province during the course of the year, culminating in the BCJD Track and Field Championships and the BC Open Cross Country Championships.
In Zone 6 (Vancouver Island and Powell River), the various clubs are members of the Vancouver Island Athletics Association (VIAA) which organizes meets and training sessions for athletes in the Zone. For the dates of this year's Island Series events, please see our Competition Schedule page.

- learn Track & Field specific skills
- make friends and exercise in a supportive environment
- attend track meets, if they wish
- compete in alignment with the LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT (LTAD) pathway.
