A Zone 6 team camp for athletes making the Zone 6 team in athletics was held in Courtenay on July 10 and 11.

DETAILS

Full details are posted on the Comox Cougar web site at http://www.comoxcougars.org

(Note: I am not directly involved in organizing and running the training camp so please direct any questions you may have to

John May at johnwilliammay@hotmail.com or Christine Morfitt at gmorfitt@shaw.ca ).

Similar camps, held before the 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 Summer Games

were considered a tremendous success

by all those who were involved

and did a lot for the fine showing of the Zone 6 team at the 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 Games.

.

Athletes who were chosen (either in the first round or from the Wild Card pool) for the Zone 6 team in athletics at the BC Summer Games have all been informed by EMail.

SOME athletes who were NOT chosen for the team have been put on the substitute list. They will be informed by EMail. There is a faint possiblity that an athlete may be moved from the substitute list to the team list if an athlete on the team must withdraw for medical or other reasons. This can happen as late as the Tuesday night before the games. If you suddenly get a phone call asking whether you want to move onto the team you should be ready to answer yes or no immediately.

.

.In the past I have shredded the unused cheques of those athletes who did not go to the Games AFTER the games are over. The reason for the delay is the fact that even if an athlete is not put on the team initially, they may be put on the substitute list and may be called on at the last moment to replace an athlete who suddenly becomes ill or has to drop out just before the games for some other reason. As long as I have the deposit cheque, I can easily process the addition of an athlete from the substitute list. In 2008 I replaced an athlete on the team with a substitute on the Tuesday evening just before the Games started on Thursday but since all the paperwork was in place, it was just a matter of informing the athlete.

.

The Trials for Zone 6 Track and Field Athletes were held at the Elwood Wylie Memorial Meet

May 22 and 23, 2010 in Nanaimo

Members selected to the Zone 6 team in the first round and those put in the wild card pool will be informed unoffiically by coaches or representatives who were at the selection meeting held on Sunday, May 23.

The Zone 6 representative, Tom Dingle, will be getting in touch with athletes offiicially within the next few days to let them know whether they made the team in the first round or whether they have been put in the Wild Card pool.

The last trials meet being held in BC is not until June 13 so addition of athletes who did not make the team on the first round and who are in the Wild Card pool will not be done until June 14. It is highly unlikely that athletes who placed sixth or worse in an event at the trials will be considered for that event.
