Hi Everyone:

1) The Comox Meet is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29 with the first event to start at 10:30 am on Saturday.  The details are on the Comox Valley Cougar site ( http://www.comoxcougars.org/ ) .

2)  The Zone 6 camp for athletes chosen for the Zone 6 team in athletics going to the Summer Games will be held from Sunday evening, June 29 to Tuesday afternoon, July 1.  Because of the large numbers on the team, the Comox Valley Cougars cannot billet everyone, so they are making arrangements for athletes to sleep at a local ice arena or similar facility on Sunday and Monday evenings.  This means that athletes will have to bring a mattress or foamie and a sleeping bag.  It will also give them practice sleeping under similar conditions to those they will face at the games.  The cost is $100.00 and this will provide pack, shirt, water bottle, lunches snacks, and MAY provide dinner and/or breakfast (still open to discussion). A detailed schedule will be posted shortly. PLEASE LET JOHN MAY KNOW IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING THE ZONE 6 CAMP.  His Email address is johnwilliammay@hotmail.com. He will answere any further questions about the camp.

3) The deadline for me to submit the Zone 6 team list (with substitutes) is Monday, June 23 at 4:00 pm.  I can make no changes after that so if you have to drop out or have other concerns please let me know well before then.  The Summer Games organization will take these lists and send out packages to all athletes sometime early in July.  This package will contain information about what to expect at the games. etc.

4) The Summer Games organization is requiring athletes to travel under team travel conditions.  This means that all team members must be accompanied by one of the coach/chaperones.  This limits the number of pickup points at which athletes will be picked up by bus.  Right now it looks like the four pickup points for the Zone 6 team will be somewhere in Victoria, Nanaimo, Parksville and Campbell River. Athletes will have to make their way to the pickup point on there own, which will mean some travelling for those further afield.  I will be sending out more exact information in a day or so.

5)  Athletes can make their own way to and/or from the Games in Kelowna subject to the following restrictions:

a. They register with the Games registration desk in Kelowna before a deadline on the opening day of the Games

b. They stay in the accommodation provided for all track and field athletes

c. They do not leave before the end of the closing ceremonies

d. They provide a request to travel separately IN WRITING       to myself as Zone 6 Rep. and to Diana Hollefreund as Provincial rep for athletics.  This request must contain the full name of the athlete, the means by which they will be travelling and the person responsible for looking after them during the trip.  It must be signed by a parent or guardian.

e.  Please go to the Zone 6 site and fill out the request for private transport form. Send the completed form to me by Sunday, June 22.

That's enough for now.  I look forward to seeing you at the Comox meet and hope you have a great time at the Zone 6 camp and the BC Summer Games

Tom
