How the Zone 6 team is chosen:

 

ATHLETES WHO HAVE NOT HANDED IN A COMPLETED SUMMER GAMES APPLICATION FORM PRIOR TO COMPETING WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ZONE 6 TEAM. 

 

AS WELL AS THE PERSONAL INFORMATION, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU INCLUDE THE NUMBER AND PROVINCE ON YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE (IF CANADIAN).  A PHOTOCOPY OF A FOREIGN BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR PASSPORT PAGE SHOWING YOUR AGE IS ACCEPTABLE INSTEAD. ALSO INCLUDE A POST-DATED CHEQUE (OR CASH) FOR THE AMOUNT ON THE FORM. ATHLETES WHO ARE NOT CURRENTLY MEMBERS OF BC ATHLETICS MUST TAKE OUT A SUMMER GAMES MEMBERSHIP IN BC ATHLETICS TO COVER INSURANCE WHILE TRAINING FOR AND COMPETING AT THE GAMES.

The Zone 6 team for the Summer Games is chosen at a meeting (place to be announced) held immediately after the events are finished on Sunday, June 11 and the official results are available. The selection committee is composed of coaches or representatives from all the clubs and schools of athletes being considered for selection. Athletes who are registered as independents may also have a representative at this meeting. No athletes up are allowed.

 

Zone 6 will be choosing 36 athletes (18 females and 18 males) subject to the following constraints:

 

  1. Athletes must have competed at the Zone 6 Trials in the event(s) for which they are being considered. Performances from other meets will not be considered unless a medical dispensation is applied for and granted at which point the athlete will be considered for a wild card position only.

 

  1. No more than two athletes will be chosen for each event except  three may be chosen for 100m and 200m events.

 

  1. At the games an athlete can compete in up to three events for which they qualify plus one relay  OR

 

  1. in the Pentathlon plus one relay. 

 

  1. If an athlete qualifies for more than three events, then they will be asked to choose soon after the trials which three events they wish to compete in at the Summer Games. 

 

  1. Athletes opting for the Pentathlon cannot compete in any other events at the Summer Games other than one relay.

 

  1. One 4 x 100 and one 4 x 400 relay team for each gender will be chosen by the coaches at the Summer Games from among the athletes on the Zone 6 team present at the Games.

Athletes who are chosen for the Zone 6 team will be notified as soon as possible after the Trials. 

 

Athletes who do not make the team on the first round MAY be selected as alternate members to fill vacancies due to illness or other reasons. Athletes in this category will be notified as soon as possible.
