Track and Field

The Track and Field season runs from early April to the end of July. In April, May and June the Vancouver Athletics Association (VIAA) clubs host six track meets at various locations on Vancouver Island. Athletes, 9 years and older (born in 1998 or earlier), may compete. Most events are offered at these meets. Athletes may also compete at meets on the mainland. In July, there are BC and Canadian Championships in which many of our athletes have competed. In late July, 2008 the BC Summer Games are in Kelowna. Athletes born in 1993 or 1994 can try to qualifiy for the Zone 6 team by competing at a specified meet in the Island Track series in Early June.
Training for the Track and Field season is all year round. In the fall we organize training for the cross country runners to maintian conditioning. In November, indoor training begins in the barn at the Saanichton fairgrounds. In March the training moves outdoors to the track at Parkland School in Sidney.
