Track and Field

The Track and Field season runs from early April to the end of July. In April, May and June the Vancouver Athletics Association (VIAA) clubs host seven track meets at various locations on Vancouver Island. Athletes, 9 years and older (born in 1996 or earlier), may compete. Most events are offered at these meets. Athletes may also compete at meets on the mainland. In July, there are BC and Canadian Championships in which many of our athletes have competed.
Training for the Track and Field season is all year round. In the fall we organize weight training sessions as well as training with the cross country runners to maintian conditioning. In November, indoor training begins in the barn at the Saanichton fairgrounds. In March the training moves outdoors to the track at Parkland School in Sidney.

Vancouver Island Track and Field Series, 2005

Updated Sunday, December 18, 2005

To Qualify for Island Series Awards athletes must satisfy at least one of the following criteria

Compet in any 4 Island Series meets excluding the Peninsula Throws and Pentathlon Meet

OR Compete in 4 Island Series meets including the Throws, etc. meet IF at least one of the other meets is either the Alberni or Courtenay meet and either the Nanaimo or Duncan meet.

Points for performances at the Pentathlon/Throws meet in Sidney on June 5 can count towards an athlete's total but the meet itself may count towards the four meets need for qualification unless the second criterion above is met.

This is the same qualification procedure as in 2004 or the geographical one that was originally proposed for this year.

Final Version Best of 4 Meets Awards

Final Version Run, Jump, Throw Awards

Final Version Team Awards

For Best of Four awards total points of four best performances from four different meets.

For Run, Jump Throw awards total points of best Run, best Jump and best Throw during series .

This year points totals will be calculated differently. There will be a performance points table for each event and age group, some points for placing and 10 points for competing. Points will also be assigned for placing in Official Relays run for Top Ten placings.
