PLEASE NOTE: There have been significant changes in the schedule in an attempt to spread events around and minimize conflicts.
So please replace any earlier versions with this one.
UPDATE FOR ELITE THROWERS IN THE HAMMER AND DISCUS: We have modified our throwing cage so that the left hand 3/5 of the landing sector goes out for more than 85 meters. Then a hilly , bushy area begins to incroach on the landing area so that down the right hand line there is clearance out to only 55 meters. In the right hand far end of the sector implements disappear into the bushy area making it impossible to measure accurately even if we can find the hammer or discus. Therefore, if you want a measured distance over 55 meters you will have to make sure your implement lands down the left hand 2/3 of the sector.
Peninsula Track feels that athletes who concentrate on the throwing events may be short changed in the Island series this year since there is limited Hammer at the Dogwood, no Javelin at Sidney, no hammer at Alberni and no hammer or discus for the younger athletes at Courtenay. Therefore, we are hosting a throws only meet at Sidney along with the VIAA Pentathlon meet so that throws athletes could get more opportunity to do their thing. Results from
this meet will count towards the Vancouver Island Series awards but the meet itself is not counted towards the four necessary to be eligible for
Island Series awards.
