Jumps Clinic -- Courtenay, Dec. 13, 2003Hosted by Comox Valley Cougars Track ClubEleven athletes and Eleven Coaches in attendance. Cool with a couple of showers but on the whole the weather was very reasonable. Chili, buns, hot chocolate, etc. prepared by Christine Morfitt. Many thanks to Tony Dickson, John May and all the other Comox Valley cougars who did such a great job in organizing and running this clinic.Schedule:1) Outline of program and talk on warmup exercises (30 min)2) Warmup exercises done by the athletes in attendance (30 min) with coaches observing and discussing 3) Split into two groups: high jump (2 athletes) and horizontal jumps (rest). Athletes were shown drills to help improve their skills and coaches watched and discussed while athletes did the drills. Then athletes did five or six jumps which were videotaped for viewing and discussion later. Strong emphasis on having athletes state what they were thinking as they did their jumps so that they get used to concentrating on what they do in each jump so that they can analyse and improve their jumping. Then, more drills were done. (90 min)4) Lunch followed by a discussion on conditioning exercises (60 min). 5) Viewed videotapes of athletes jumping and discussed (60 min inside where it was warm!) 6) Two laps of doom for the athletes where they did various conditioning exercises. The pictures below were taken by Tom Dingle and therefore are biased in that they tend to show the two Peninsula Track athlete (Shauna Bertram and Thomas Riekki). Also in attendance from Peninsula Track Club were coaches Eleanor Richardson and John Root and parent Bob Riekki. |
