Getting accreditation for Officiating by
BC Athletics
Officials are accredited at a number on levels depending on the amount of training and the amount of practical experience at officiating they have completed.
LEVEL 1 – general
training
BCAA normal program – attend a level 1 workshop and help officiate a specified number of hours at BCAA sanctioned meets. See http://www.bcathletics.org/main/officials.htm#upgrading for details. Note one credit is usually three or four hours of officiating.
Level 1 training course
6 officiating credits (24 hours work in any athletics discipline).
or
VIAA program (on the
job training in specified areas) : At meets
sanctioned by BC Athletics (usually on
hand timing,
finish line judging,
one jump event
one throwing event
plus four or more hours at any event.
To be signed off by the appropriate VIAA official.
LEVEL 2 – general
training
BCAA normal program – attend a level 2 workshop
and help officiate a specified number of hours at BCAA sanctioned meets. See http://www.bcathletics.org/main/officials.htm#upgrading
for details. Note one credit is usually three or four hours of officiating.
Community level official
certified for all events
12 credits (2 LDR, 4 Track, and 6 Field)
1 evaluation, 6 mos. Service as a Level 1 official
Level 2 workshop
Note: LDR stands for Road Races, XC Races or Road Walking Events.
VIAA program :
Same as the BCAA normal program (given above). To be signed off by the appropriate VIAA
official.
Please note: Officials may attend a level 2 workshop
at any time, even if they have not completed the level 1 requirements. Their credit in the level 2 workshop will be
recorded and held for when they are working on level 2.
