CROSS-COUNTRY CHALLENGE

(Sanctioned by B.C. Athletics)

CENTENNIAL PARK, Wallace Drive, CENTRAL SAANICH,

SUNDAY, March 6, 2005, 1:00 pm start

Below is a copy of the announcement for this race. Please bring it to the attention of runners who you might feel would be interested in this event . It is sanctioned by BC Athletics and is open to all cross-country runners born in 1996 or earlier. Ribbons will be awarded from 1st to 8th place in the various categories (based on the year of birth, not age or grade on race day). There are no explicit school or team competitions . Points for those competing in the 2004/2005Vancouver Island Cross-Country Series will be based on placing among others competing in the same series.

The course is based on a 1.3 km loop through the woods at Centennial Park in Central Saanich . There are several ups and downs to give it some character. Details of the course will be posted at the registration desk on race day, by the concession and near the washrooms. See Map.

The races start at 1:00 pm. Several categories will run at the same time but ribbons will be awarded separately by category which are indicated by different colored stickers. Registration is from 12:00 am to 1:00 pm but runners should be registered well before the start of their race. Registration fees are $4.00  for BC Athletics members (club membership, school membership or independent membership) and $7.00  for non-members.

For those unfamiliar with the area, you get to Centennial Park  by driving north from Victoria on highway 17 (signs to Swartz Bay Ferry terminal) and turn left at Mt. Newton Cross Road in Central Saanich (Waddling Dog, MacDonalds and White Spot).  Proceed west  past 1st set of lights (Prairie Inn) and turn left on Wallace drive (4 way stop).  Centennial Park is on right about 1 km from turn.

A Concession Stand and washrooms will be available at the park.
