What is the middle distance / distance team?

The middle / distance team is for athletes aged 12 and older as of September of the current year who are interested in Cross-Country running and/or track distances from 400metres up to 5000metres.  This is a year round developmental training program.

Our practice days and times from September 2009 to February 2010 are:

Tuesday (5:00pm); Wednesday (5:00pm) and Friday (3:45pm).  Generally Tuesday and Wednesday are at Centennial Park.  Friday sessions vary and athletes are advised a minimum of two days prior to the session as to the location.

Senior athletes ( age 16+ ) are expected to run on their own on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.  Distance or time of run and percentage effort expected provided by the coach via email.

Athletes aged 14-15 years are expected to run on their own on Thursdays and occasionally on one of the weekend days. Distance or time of run and percentage effort expected provided by the coach via email.

Athletes aged 12-13 years are expected to run on their own on Thursdays or a weekend day.  Distance or time of run and percentage effort expected provided by the coach via email.

Who can join this team?

Any athlete who is 12 years old (and older) as of September of the current year is welcome to contact me if they have an interest in middle and distance track and/or cross country.  Being a great distance runner is not the most important quality an athlete should possess for this training group, however, a sincere interest in learning about distance running and being a focused athlete are.

Practice and meeting times may change on short notice.

Interested runners must meet me with their parents to discuss their motivation and my philosophy of training youth prior to joining the group.
