  • Competed in 9 different events at 6 Island meets
  • Had 17 personal bests

 

Kira;

  • Made JD Awards Standard in the 60H, HJ and LJ
  • Made Top Ten List in 60m
  • 5 medals at the BC JD Championships

 

Runner of the Year

 

DUSTIN SAPALA

Given to the athlete(s) who has competed in at least three running events with some outstanding performances

 

Dustin:

  • 2nd in the Octathlon at the BC Youth championships
  • Many 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 110H, 400H, 400m, etc.
  • Competed at 14 meets, in 12 events with 11 PB’s

 

Jumper of the Year

 

MARK MCNEILL

Given to the athlete(s) who has competed in at least two jumping events with some outstanding performances

 

Mark:

  • Concentrated on the Long Jump and Triple Jump
  • 1st in the Triple Jump at the Vancouver Island and Lower Vancouver Island Championships
  • Had 10 PB’s in 4 events at 12 meets
  • Competed at the Canadian Youth Championships in the TJ

 

 

Thrower of the Year

 

MAX SZCZAWINSKI

Given to the athlete(s) who has competed in at least three throwing events with some outstanding performances

 

Max:

  • Does all four throwing events
  • Attained JD Awards standard an the Javelin twice and came close on several others
  • Came 1st in the Javelin at the BCJD Championships and 5 other meets

Dan:

  • Won a Bronze medal in the Decathlon at the World Masters Championships in Finland

Peggy:

  • Competed in throwing events at the BC, Canadian and World Masters Championships

Sandy: 

  • Set Canadian Records in the Hammer and the Decathlon
  • Competed in 16 events at 9 meets with 7 PB’s
  • Very dedicated Masters athlete

Anne:   

  • Competed in the Weight Pentathlon at the VIAA Pentathlon Meet
  • Competed in the Decathlon at the US Masters Multi Events Meet
  • Competed in 16 events at 9 meets with 10 PB’s
  • Very dedicated Masters athlete

 

 

Eleanor Richardson JD Award

This award is given to JD athletes who typify Eleanor’s ideal in a young athlete of participation, dedication, co-operation and sportsmanship as observed by the coaches

 

All three of the athletes do much more than satisfy the minimum requirements for this award and are worthy winners of this award.

 

Fiona Clarke Sportsmanship Award for Females

 

HALLEY COTE

 

Given to the female athlete(s) who has shown the qualities of participation, dedication, co-operation and sportsmanship.

 

 

Halley:

  • Helped coach the JD athletes during the winter and spring and summer seasons
  • Competed in  15 meets
  • Concentrated on the middle distance runs, TJ and JT
  • always cheerful and helpful – a great role model

 

Fiona Clarke Sportsmanship Award for Males

Given to the male athlete(s) who has shown the qualities of participation, dedication, co-operation and sportsmanship.

 

Caelan:

  • 2nd in the Pentathlon at the VIAA Pentathlon Meet
  • Very dedicated and focused and hard working

 

Jacob:

  • Competed in 12 Events at 9 Meets with 10 PB’s
  • 1st in the Pentathlon at the VIAA Pentathlon Meet

  • Becoming a first class hurdler
  • 2nd in the 100H at the BC High School championships and 3rd at the BC Youth Championships
  • 2nd in the 400H at the BC High School championships and at the BC Youth Championships
  • Competed at the Canadian Youth Championships

Grace

  • Becoming a first class sprinter
  • 1st in the 100m and 200m at the BC Youth Championships
  • Named as an Alternate to the BC Team to the Canadian Youth Championships
  • Competed at the Canadian Youth Championships
