Kim: 

  • 2nd in Pentathlon at VIAA Pentathlon and Duncan
  • Made JD Awards Standard in High Jump
  • 5th in the Pentathlon at the BC Summer Games
  • Many 1sts, 2nds and 3rds

 

Cameron:

  • Competed in seven meets
  • Competed at least once in every event he could
  • 6th in the Island Track and Field Series and 5th in the RJT series

 

Fiona Clarke Sportsmanship Award for Females

JACQUELINE GABY

KELSEY VEMILYEA

Jacqueline:

  • Third in the Island Cross Country Series
  • 7th in the Island Track and Field Series
  • 3rd in the Race Walk at the BC JD Championships
  • always cheerful and helpful

 

Kelsey:

  • Took up Race Walking in February and rapidly improved
  • 2nd in Race Walk at BC Summer Games
  • 1st in Race Walk at BC JD Championships
  • 2nd in Island Cross Country Series
  • 5th in the Island Run, Jump, throw Series
  • always cheerful and helpfule

 

Fiona Clarke Sportsmanship Award for Males

SPENCER GABY

NOLAN STUBBS

 

Spencer:

  • Took up Race Walking in February and rapidly improved
  • 3nd in Race Walk at BC Summer Games
  • 1st in Race Walk at BC JD Championships
  • Very dedicated and focused and hard working

 

Nolan:

  • First in Island Run, Jump, Throw Series
  • Fifth in the Island Track and Field Series
  • Two Gold and Two Bronze Medals at the BCJD Championships
  • Tried out the Weight Pentathlon at the VIAA Pentathlon and came first

 

Runner of the Year

JACOB SZCZAWINSKI

MAX SZCZAWINSKI

GRACE MORGAN

Jacob:

  • Many firsts, seconds and thirds in running races up to 800m
  • Many firsts in sprint and distance hurdles
  • 4th in the Island Track and Field Series
  • 1st in the Island RJT series

 

Max:

  • Concentrated  on the 60m, 100m and 60m Hurdles with many firsts
  • JD Award Standard and Top Ten performance in the 60m and Javelin
  • Silver medals in the 60m and 60m Hurdles at the BCJD Championships

 

Grace:

  • Was 1st or 2nd in the Island meets in 100m, 200m, 80m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles
  • 2nd in the Island Track Series
  • Unfortunately, suffered an injury late in the season but still helped the 4x100m relay team to get a fourth at the BC Summer Games.

Jumper of the Year

LARA GIBSON

RACHEL ROSS

Lara:

  • Many firsts in Long Jump, High Jump and Triple Jump
  • Gold Medal in the Triple Jump and Bronze Medals in the High Jump and Long Jump at the BC JD Championships

 

Rachel:

  • Many firsts in Long Jump, High Jump and Triple Jump
  • Other good performances in all three jumping events

Thrower of the Year

DON BRODEUR

ALEXANDRA NORMAN-ROSS

OLIVER ROSS

Don:

  • Does all five throwing events
  • Competed at most of the Island Meets as a Master
  • Competed at the BC Masters, coming 1st in the Javelin and 2nd in all other four throwing events

 

Alexandra:

  • Does all five throwing events
  • Competed at many Island meets
  • Tried the Weight Pentathlon at the VIAA Pentathlon

 

Oliver:

  • Does all five throwing events
  • Competed at many high school meets
  • Came 7th in the hammer at the BC High School Championships
  • Tried the Weight Pentathlon at the VIAA Pentathlon

 

Peninsula Track Club Inspirational Award

DUSTIN SAPALA

 

Dustin

  • Gold Medal at the BC Summer Games
  • Gold Medal at the BCJD Pentathlon Championships
  • 4th in the 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles at the Canadian Legion National Championships
  • Very faithful at attending practices and very focused and dedicated

This award is given to JD athletes who typify Eleanor’s ideal in a young athlete of participation, dedication, co-operation and sportsmanship.

 

All four of the athletes do much more than satisfy the minimum requirements for this award and are worthy winners of the inaugural presentation of this award.
